Almost sixty-five years after its creation by Pa Josiah Akindayomi of Ondo State in Nigeria, and with over 3000 parishes in Nigeria, The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) could rightly be said to have members in millions.
With its operations extended to other African countries like C’ote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Gambia, Cameroon, and South Africa, one may not be able to put its membership in figures.
The two Twitter accounts of RCCG:
That is made more difficult when it’s extremely easy to locate its many places of worship in England, Germany, and France, and in several states in the United States such as in Dallas, Tallahassee, Houston, New York, Washington, and Chicago and also in the Caribbean states of Haiti and Jamaica.
For that, no unbiased person would of truth say the RCCG should not be honoured as the biggest Christian fold in the world.
One could easily remember the church’s yearly conventions and allied events that bring together at the Camp in Ogun State tens of millions of God seeking people.
Yet, the Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s supervised house of worship can only boast of less than sixty thousand followers on its two Twitter accounts. That is in contrast with the 96.18m, 85.89m and 51.2m for Katty Perry, Barrack Obama and Kim Kardashian respectively.
Millions of worshipers at RCCG camp
The two accounts belonging to the church are that of the Headquarters with 35 thousand and 22.9 thousand followers for Central Office.
Then, the riddle is, where are all the members of the church; whether active or dormant worshippers?
Is RCCG not having more than 66, 000 pastors worldwide?
Where are all its members? Are members of the RCCG not among the millions following our so-called ‘Worldly’ high profile personalities?
Millions of worshipers at RCCG camp.
Does the church forbid its members from the social media while maintaining its presence there?
Or, did Pastor Adeboye beg Redeemers not to follow the church on Twitter?
Should this not be labeled as an act of gross hypocrisy toward God and His church?
May be only the clerics can proffer an answer to that.
