Tragedy struck in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of Ogun State on Thursday and Friday as gunmen suspected to be militants attacked and killed three policemen and four residents during two separate operations the assailants carried out to adopt a Chinese expatriate and rob a businessman.
The three cops were believed to be officers attached to the Lagos State Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
The policemen and an unidentified man were shot dead on Thursday while trying to rescue the abducted Chinese national as the three other people who lost their lives died on Friday during an attack at the home of a businessman, identified as Chief Rafiu Daramola, where about N4.7m was carted away.
The dead residents were shot while the robbers make their escape.
The incident took place at Odi Omi, a boundary community between Lagos and Ogun states.
The dead were identified as a 25-year-old motorcycle rider, Yusuf Ogunse; a 68-year-old retired local government worker, Omotayo Onokoya; and a farmer from Edo State, one Ajapa, The Punch reports.
A resident said when the police were alerted to the incident but they refused to respond, saying it was still dark.
The Ogun State police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi has confirmed the killing of the three residents, adding that the slain policemen were not from the state command.
