The Punch reports that about 30 persons have been electrocuted while watching yesterday’s (Thursday) evening Europa League football between Manchester United and Anderlecht in Calabar, Cross River State.
A survivor told a correspondent of The Punch that a transformer near the viewing centre located in the Iyang-Esu area of the Calabar Municipal Local Government Area exploded during the match and this caused a high-tension cable to drop on the viewing centre.
It was reported that more than eighty persons were at the hall when the incident occurred.
It happened at about 9:48pm.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Cross River State Command, Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident.
Manchester United reached the Europa League semifinals for the first time after beating Anderlecht 2-1 on Thursday.
