Wike, NIA Battle Over Ownership Of N13bn Seized By EFCC

There was mild drama on Friday over the ownership of the N13bn ($43.4m, N23m and £27,000) found by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission at the Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The two dramatis personae were no other than Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and the National Intelligence Agency.

While the National Intelligence Agency on Friday said the money belonged to it, Wike thereafter demanded that the said amount was kept there as part of his loot by the past governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi. He, therefore, asked that the money be refunded to the coffers of the Rivers State government.

It would be interesting to note that the EFCC has so far refused to comment on the ownership tussle between the warring parties.
