Nollywood actor and former President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Segun Arinze steered the Nigerian movie industry to the launch of Nollywood Ojez Joggers Club, on Saturday 8th April, 2017 at the National Stadium, Surulere in Lagos.
In attendance at the jogging exercise venue were AGN’s Bot chairman, Prince Ifeanyi Dike, Nkechi Emmanuel, Paul Obasele, National Secretary AGN Abubakar Yakubu, Lagos AGN chairman Don Pedro Aganbi, Tony Akposere and a host of others.
Ifeanyi Dike said the exercise was for the good of the industry where many deaths have been recorded recently, due to lack of proper health care by actors.
On his part, Segun Arinze alleged, “It’s to keep fit. It is to exercise and network. The issue is not trying to avoid death as no one can do that. It’s just to prolong one’s life by taking good care of the body.”
Don Pedro explained the reason for the jogging exercise, saying “We are shouting enough of sickness in Nollywood. Nollywood has about 15 members at different hospitals. We can’t let that continue. We are clamouring that actors on set should ask producers and directors for time to keep fit.
This is a part of showing that Lagos AGN is responsible to its members. This is love and a display of passion from us to them.”
Abubakar Yakubu, who represented the President of AGN, Ibinabo Fiberisima pledged the support of the national body.
He said that the Lagos unveiling of Nollywood Joggers Club is a replication of the on-going project set up by Ibinabo for industry practitioners to be hale and healthy all the time.
The AGN scribe revealed that all other state chapters are already aligning to the idea, by following the footstep of Abuja where it was first launched.
