The once serene Ekpri Ikot Ene community, Akpabuyo Local Government Area, Cross River State, was thrown into a panic when news of the death of the head of the village, HRH Francis Ekpo Ene filtered into town.
More worrisome and grievous to the people was the fact that the late man met his death in the hands of his son, Francis Ekpo Jnr.
The 23-year-old son reportedly murdered his aged father and dumped the remains in a toilet pit.
His grouse against his father was the persistent accusation of theft leveled against him by the elderly man. The younger sister was later found to be the person stealing the missing money to furnish her boyfriend.
While some in the village say Francis who is epileptic had never been violent, there are others secretly accusing ‘enemies’ to have spiritually controlled the young man to kill his father.
The deceased former king was not loved by a section of the village who wanted him out by any means. They say it was a Traditional Coup.
The case has been reported to the police.
